Packaging machines are divided into two large categories, those for solid/powder products and those for liquids/fluids.
Within each category there are also different machine classes, which differ essentially in the packaging speed (normally from 15 to 120 packs per minute, up to 180 packs per minute, and in the type of bag created (pillow, bottom square, three-sided closure, four-sided welded, continuous, Eurohole perforation, vacuum or with inert gas, etc.) as well as for the size/capacity of the bag (from a few grams to over 10 kg.).
There are also packaging machines with built-in scales (generally single-head) or with combined scales (generally multi-head).
In most cases these are vertical packaging machines, but, for particular needs, inclined packaging machines are available, similar to the vertical ones, but particularly suitable for fragile products (e.g. biscuits or fresh pasta) which require a slower descent towards the bag or horizontal or flowpack packaging machines, specific for the packaging of long products (e.g. spaghetti) or fragile ones or to be placed flat (e.g. flat biscuits, biscuits or crackers, sponges, clothespins) or in trays.
